Serge Abiteboul is a researcher and a pioneer in the fields of data management, database theory, and finite model theory. In 2023-2024, he is celebrating his 70th birthday and his retirement from Arcep, France's telecommunication regulation agency, after a long career as a computer scientist, conducted in large part at Inria. Serge was elected a member of the French Academy of Sciences in 2008, of the Academia Europaea in 2011, and an ACM Fellow in 2011.

To celebrate his scientific career and achievements, a scientific and festive event was organized in his honor on the occasion of ICDT 2024 in Paestum, Italy, the 27th edition of a conference that Serge helped create in 1986, first held in Rome.
